CrossFit Open Toronto

This week, Wednesday to Friday, join the CrossFitters across the GTA at Yonge and Dundas Square to hit off the start of the Reebok CrossFit Open! Reebok will transform Yonge and Dundas Square into the ultimate CrossFit playground with special guests, 2011 Fittest Man on the Planet – Rich Froning Jr and 2010 Fittest Man on the Planet – Graham Holmberg.

Why is this important? CrossFit is the evolution of fitness, doing everything better than it has ever been done. Incorporating the training methods from the top coaches in sports such as powerlifting, Olympic lifting rowing, running and gymnastics to create an elite athlete. No other athlete playing any sport, training in whatever gimmicky machine or watching any celebrity fitness DVD can do more work in a wide variety of tasks.

“But what if I don’t care to be an elite athlete?” Now this is the true beauty of CrossFit. Everyone needs to run, jump, sit, stand and pick stuff up regardless of age, gender and physical prowess. This is exactly what CrossFit trains us to be – great in every day life. People’s fitness requirements do not differ in kind but in degree. That means grandma would do the same thing just less and at a lighter load. Even YOU with the “bad knees”. You need to sit, stand and move about. Exercise is the one aspect of life that affects everything else in a positive way (see yesterdays post).

Now back to the games!

The journey to the CrossFit Games is a 3 stage process starting with the CrossFit open. The CrossFit Open is a 5 week competition open to anyone. Workouts will be given each week to find the top 60 athletes in each of the 17 regions move on to compete at the Regionals. The top competitors from the Regional competition will move on to the CrossFit games at the Home Depot Centre in Carson, California on July 13-15.

These athletes will be put to the test with no knowledge of what each work out entails until immediately before the event. Training year round in complete darkness with only the CrossFit mantra of obtaining the ultimate general physical preparedness.

Join the CrossFit movement! Workouts are always tough, you will never know what you’re going to do and you will always improve. And bring grandma along because she needs it too!

Now that a medical doctor has said it, and not just some bossy midget with a ridiculous haircut, perhaps more of you will take this seriously, take this “magic pill” and see the results. If you have been abusing the “my knee hurts and I have to take it easy” card or the “I’m too tired and stressed” card too much, there really is no excuse now. Even people with arthritis knee pain receiving this treatment 3 times/week reduced their pain and discomfort by 47%! Exercise is the also the #1 treatment for fatigue and reduces anxiety by 48%!
